Moving Forward, But Taking Part of the Past With Me

As we were driving home, I caught this photo of the sunset in the side mirror of the truck. We were moving forward and I got this beautiful piece of what was behind us. It has a lesson for me.

Moving Forward, But Taking Part of the Past With Me

Life can be tough sometimes. None of us get out without pain, mistakes or hard lessons. And probably every one of us has had a relationship or two that has left our hearts aching and our minds reeling. But chances are, we’ve also had a lot of wonderful moments where we wanted to skip down the street and shout in thrill. Possibly, even in those very relationships and situations that hurt us, there were beautiful parts, but sometimes it’s hard to remember them.

This photo gives me a poignant reminder. I need to keep moving forward and living my life to the fullest, but I can’t forget what’s behind me. For it’s in those very bumps, pains and thrills that we learn the most important things in life…how to be a friend, how to love, how to forgive, to serve, to give, to receive, to celebrate, to enjoy, to trust, to learn to trust again.

As we embark on a new year, this lesson is not by accident. I am moving forward, but there are beautiful things, important things I can take with me from the past that will help me soar in the future. They may not have all been simple and easy, but they were part of my journey that guides me to where I’m supposed to be.

I’m excited to see to where that is.
