Vocabulary Lesson

So when did the words “fine”, “never mind” and “OK” become so loaded?

  • Perhaps someone has uttered the word “fine” in a curt, “don’t-want-to-discuss-it” intention, and
  • Possibly there has been a “Never mind!” offered in an exasperated final attempt to escape a drawn out “discussion” or
  • I’m sure I’ve heard “OK” wielded in an less-than-passionate attempt to stop the talking, but really, almost never.

I simply can’t understand how today, “never mind” can’t simply mean, “never mind”. Really, quit reading into my words! LOL.
